Job Description

Job Title: Fabric Support Officer
Location: Edinburgh City Centre
Salary: 36,312 – 42,717 per year
Duration: Temporary roles with possibility of perm
Hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week, Mon – Fri

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the initial point of contact for Helpdesk and R&M staff, providing expertise and advice on fabric maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide technical advice and supervision on fabric maintenance and repair functions across the Council’s property portfolio.
  • Liaise with FM Managers and building occupiers to ensure smooth on-site operations with minimum disruption.
  • Check allocated fabric maintenance invoices for financial and quality verification.
  • Conduct site audits of contractor invoices received and collate weekly audit reports.
  • Ensure strong communication with senior managers, corporate Helpdesk, and client representatives.
  • Identify opportunities for continual improvement in maintenance practices and operations.
  • Respond to enquiries, provide professional advice on maintenance and repairs, and report on performance management.
  • Arrange contract programmes and monitor contractor resources for efficient execution of repairs and maintenance.
  • Undertake contract supervision and liaison work with external contractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure effective systems management of CAFM and associated equipment.
  • Support FM Managers on maintenance and statutory compliance matters.

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • HND/HNC in Building Maintenance or equivalent with relevant experience in a maintenance environment.
  • Recognized building services trade background and completion of a trade apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge of fabric maintenance service delivery and health and safety legislative requirements.
  • Good planning, analytical, and decision-making skills with the ability to ensure compliance and on-time delivery.
  • Highly experienced in all areas of fabric maintenance with the necessary skills to monitor contracts.
  • Ability to prioritize resources within a challenging environment and work cooperatively with colleagues.
  • Ability to engage with other council services, elected members, and external organizations.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on building maintenance and repairs decision making.
  • Responsible for delivering service within budget, on time, and to agreed standards.
  • Supervise overall progress on contracts for repairs, maintenance, and statutory compliance.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes and implement best practices within the construction industry.
  • Authorized to approve invoice payments, instruct works orders, and supervise maintenance contracts.
