West Lothian Jobs - Find jobs in West Lothian

The Scottish region of West Lothian ,which lies to the East of Edinburgh in Central Scotland has a population of around 180,000  with its main towns of Livingston, Bathgate and Linlithgow being the main population bases. The latest unemployment rate is 2.8 %.

The area like other regions of Scotland had traditional industries with many thousands employed in brick works, shale, coal mining in the towns of Fauldhouse and Whitburn and  other heavy industries. With the demise of heavy industries in Scotland West Lothian was not immune and saw high unemployment in the 1970's ad 1980's. However the later years of the twentieth century saw the emergence of new industries such as service industries and electronics moving into the industrial estates bringing new career opportunities.

Despite the region being a commuter belt to Edinburgh connected by the train and M8 motorway, West Lothian itself today has a growing reputation as a business hub of Scotland and this has led to increased employment, career and training opportunities. Due to it's strategic position and it's relatively young workforce, the region has attracted firms such as Sky which has a call centre employing many hundreds of sales and customer representatives. Tesco too are a large employer as well. Public sector employment and many specialised electronics and engineering firms offer employment too.
