Highland Jobs - Find jobs in Highland

Inverness is Scotland’s most northerly city and is often called the Capital of the Highlands. Over the last three decades the city and the Highlands of Scotland has enjoyed a rapid population growth and a boost in economic activity because of a boost to all industry sectors. Around 60,000 people currently live in the UK's most northerly city Inverness and  around 250,000 live across the region as a whole. The population in the Highlands continues to grow year on year with more people deciding to settle not only in Inverness but also to  surrounding Highland towns, villages and rural areas because of  the quality of life and increasing job opportunities and regeneration of the area. The region has a lower than national unemployment rate of around 1.9%.

Public administration, local government via the Local authorities Highland and Moray Councils, education via the numerous group of Highland and Island colleges and health through NHS Highland are still the largest employment generators in Inverness and the Highlands, however modern industries like technology, science and design are now an important part of the areas economic structure with new industries such as renewable energies creating new jobs in engineering with assistance of the Highlands and Island Enterprise Council.

Tourism, another traditional sector, is a highly important part of the local economy providing many thousands of jobs in the hospitality and catering sectors providing permanent and seasonal jobs.

The Highlands too has retained many of the traditional industries such as farming, whisky production, transport, forestry and other rural industries too.
