East Lothian, which is set on Scotland's southern eastern coast bordering the North East of England. Figures from 2016 shows that the region has a population of around 104,000 with a working population of 40,050 and an unemployment rate of around 5,000. The main towns in the area are Musselburgh, Dunbar, North Berwick, with Haddington being the administrative"capital" of the region.

The regions traditional industries included fishing,coal mining and farming. Today farming remains an important hub of East Lothian's economy with potato and fruit farming leading harvested products which requires increased seasonal employment during  the summer months.

The local economy is now based on a mix of larger services and small to medium size businesses. East Lothian council, for example is the largest employer with over 5300 employees who work within it's services. Within other industry sectors there is a prevalence of small to medium sized businesses which employ technical, administrative, sales and support staff.
