Dundee is Scotland’s fourth largest city with a population of 146,000. The city traditionally was famous for the three things - Jute, Jornalism and Jam but now the city is better known as an innovation centre in biomedical science and information technology and is recent years has witnessed a growth in opportunities in the biomedical and technical industries, with around 3000 Dundonians currently employed in these ground-breaking industries. Of these new technology industries the electronic gaming industry has a become a leading employment sector, with Dundee witnessing a growing reputaion since the 1980's. Some of the gaming developers have produced some of the best known video games in the world, including Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings. Of all of the UK's digital-entertainment 10% is created in the city.

Other leading employment sectors in Dundee are within the public sector - Dundee City Council- social work, education- Dundee and Abertay Universities and Healthcare. Ninewells Hospital is Europes largest Teaching Hospital with a rich history of producing healthcare proffesionals and has a history of attracting healthcare professionals fom around the globe.

Retailing too is a big employer within Dundee with high footfall shopping centres including the Murraygate and Overgate shopping malls as well as the Dundee city centre shopping centre.

Recent figures show that there are around 96,000 people of working age living in the city of Dundee and the average weekly wage in 2012 was £483 below the Scottish average.

Other business locations in the city include the Kingsway East Retail Park and Kingsway West Retail Park, the Blackness Industrial Estate and the Dundee Technology Park.

Over the last decade Dundee has also been redeveloping the Waterfront area of the city and will develop into a hub of tourism attractions as the  new £45million Victoria & Albert Museum was opened in 2015.
