Clackmannanshire, commonly referred to as Clacks, was historically a base of traditional industries including mining, textiles and brewing. The employment base is no longer concentrated in the traditional sectors and with high-quality business accommodation, catering for all sizes of companies. Clackmannanshire has a growing number of small businesses.

The region is the second smallest Scottish authority with a population of around 51,190 from the last census in 2013. Leading employment sectors in the region are Public sector -Education, Council and the NHS. In the private sector retail, service industries and engineering with the global company the Weir Group operating near Alloa, providing notable employment opportunities.
