Did you leave school and go straight to work on a trawler ?
I always knew I wanted to go to sea,my mother wanted me to get a trade but I wasn’t interested,it was the sea for me.
What were your first jobs on the boat ?
When you start at sea it really is all the crap jobs you get and that’s understandable ,until you have learned about the job as deckhand, you have loads to learn quickly.
When did decide to become a fishing boat owner ?
I knew at 5yrs old I wanted to become a fisherman and a skipper that ambition never left me.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in the fishing industry ?
The fishing is like no other job, after 40yrs at sea I’m still learning and seeing things that amaze me.You will never be bored at the fishing.
Where can someone find information on pursuing a career in the Industry ?
Probably contact @SWFPA or NEFTA northeast Fishermans training association
Are you optimistic for the future of the UK fishing sector ?
There is a very bright future for the fishing industry ,brexit should provide a sea of opportunity .
And would you do it all again ?
I haven’t regretted my job choice once,if you are very motivated, hardworking then the sea is your oyster 😊 and yes I would do it all again.
